Founded in 1975, OSA is a coalition of student governments dedicated to the representation, service, and protection of the collective interests of over 100,000 students in postsecondary education.
OSA recently hired OSA University of Oregon Campus Organizer Brett Rowlett to take over the position of Legislative Director as OSA heads into the 2007 legislative session. Brett comes to the position with three and a half years experience with OSA, working as the first Community College Campus Organizer at Lane Community College before heading to UO. Last election, Brett helped LCC students lead the largest voter registration campaign in the College’s history.
Brett succeeds Morgan Cowling, who served as OSA’s Legislative Director since 2004, helping students win victories on tuition mitigation, the Student Child Care Program, Parents as Scholars (legislation that allows some TANF recipients to count college towards work requirements), and the historical victory for need-based aid that secured a 76 percent increase in funding for the Oregon Opportunity Grant.
Brett looks forward to another successful legislative session, reminding students that, “Your work to get out the student vote will set the stage for student victories in 2007.”
