Rallyin' to Make Oregon Stronger: OSA's Rally for Postsecondary Education on February 22nd

Oregon Student Association
After over a decade of state disinvestment in postsecondary education, hundreds of Oregon students, faculty, administrators, and staff will convene on the Capitol steps on Thursday, February 22nd to tell their legislators to reinvest in our universities and community colleges.  Speakers will include Governor Kulongoski, Representatives Gene Whisnant and Larry Galizio, as well as university and community college students, faculty, administrators, and staff.  The rally will last from noon to 1pm.

OSA’s rally represents students’ loudest cry yet this session for funding for our universities and colleges, following efforts that began even before the fall election to send the message to legislators about the importance of funding for postsecondary education.  Students from public universities and community colleges across Oregon are arranging for bus loads of their classmates to arrive at the capitol for their chance to add their voice to this public showing of support for access to a quality college education in Oregon.

“We are educating less Oregonians at a time when having an educated citizenry is more important than ever to our state’s future,” said OSA Board member and PSU student Patrick Beisell.  “Students want to send the message loud and clear to our legislators: reinvest in postsecondary education to make Oregon stronger.”

Come join us!  RSVP to with your name, address, phone, and organization.  Students, contact your student government office for travel arrangements.  Remember to bring warm clothes and signs that make your case for funding.

On the same day, OSA will hold its Lobby Day, during which students will hold over 60 meetings with legislators on reprioritizing access to postsecondary education.  Students will be delivering thousands of recipe cards to legislators that give the “recipe” for a stronger Oregon: access to a quality postsecondary education for all Oregonians.
