OSA Retreat 2009

OSA/OSCC/OSERA Board members and all interested students will meet at the beach for three days of issue briefings, workshops, issue brainstorming, and networking.  The retreat is the foundation for the rest of the year—not to be missed, especially the Bon Fire!
The retreat will be held at the Best Western-Agate Beach in Newport Oregon.  Hotel reservations must be made by July 21st.  Call (541)265-9411 to reserve your rooms. Rooms are available for up to four people at $125 per night under the Oregon Student Association.
Retreat registration is only $40 and includes four meals and all materials. Take the opportunity to hit the coast and enjoy dinner on your own on Saturday evening. The deadline for registration is Friday, August 21st, 2009
If anyone in your group has ADA or other requirements you need us to provide please contact us by August 1st so we can be sure to accommodate you and ensure everyone enjoys and gets the most out of the weekend.

Save the Date 9th OSCConference

The Oregon Students of Color Conference (OSCConference) will be held November 13-15, 2009. The OSCConference is brought to you by the Oregon Student Foundation and this year will be hosted by the Associated Students of Portland Community College on their beautiful Cascade campus in Portland Oregon. Please be aware of the date as the conference will be presented in the fall term instead of the winter.
The OSCConference brings together students of color and allies from across the region for a weekend of workshops, speakers, and building relationships to strengthen and empower communities of color. This conference is unique! Our content focuses specifically on education around issues that prevent communities of color attaining a quality education, empowering communities of color by developing strong leaders through grassroots organizing trainings, and creating spaces for student to speak freely about barriers and personal experiences.
OSCConference is student led and the most affordable conference around. Be sure to register and pay by October 29th and get the early registration price of $45, all registration after that will be $55. The final deadline for all registration is Friday November 6th, 2009.

Now Hiring OSA Communications Director

The OSA Communications Director is responsible for the development and implementation of public relations and media strategy in all forms including print, radio, and television.  This includes developing relationships with reporters and journalists, providing regular press releases and information about OSA positions and activities, and helping reporters and the public to identify a student perspective on postsecondary education issues.  The Communications Director works to develop Board members and active students as spokespeople and trains students in strategic media work.  The Communications Director also creates newsletters, fact sheets, and other visual materials for OSA reports and campaigns, including media strategy packets.  The Communications Director works closely with the OSA policy staff and will at times perform research and advocacy functions.
