Internship Programs

Council of Legislative Advocates (COLA)

The Council of Legislative Advocates (COLA) is a statewide council of community college and university students from Oregon that serve as the primary decision-makers in developing and advancing the Oregon Student Association’s Legislative Agenda. Through a collaborative approach, COLA leads and guides the OSA Issue Choosing Process and sets legislative priorities and strategy during Oregon’s legislative sessions.

Student Organizer Coalition (SOC)

The Student Organizer Coalition (SOC) is a statewide coalition of students from community colleges and universities across Oregon who advocate for student interests both on campus and statewide. SOC serves as a vital bridge for the exchange of ideas and resources between campuses, fostering cross-institutional collaboration and solidarity. Through grassroots organizing and collective action efforts, SOC strengthens the impact of student-led initiatives across Oregon, propelling positive change beyond individual campuses and into the broader fabric of Oregon's educational landscape.

Intern Position Overview

Internship positions are campus-based, and will be hybrid with mostly remote and some in-person opportunities. There will be some travel across the state as needed, mostly to the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, Oregon. Travel costs are reimbursed.

  • September 30th, 2024 - May 31st, 2025

  • $200/month stipend

  • Student interns with both programs will be asked to attend a virtual weekly meeting and a virtual training once a month. In addition to regular meetings, student interns will be asked to partake in a maximum of 5 advocacy hours/week (scheduling can be flexible). Tasks and activities that count towards advocacy hours can be varied and different for each student depending on their interests, experience, and current involvements.

With access to a combination of workshops and hands-on experiences, COLA and SOC ensures that its members develop a robust understanding of the political landscape and gain practical advocacy skills that advance student’s professional political experience. This commitment to education not only empowers students within the council, but contributes to the broader goal of fostering a new generation of student leaders in Oregon.
